We recommend tree pruning on a regular annual basis by removing any diseased, damaged, and dead tree wood which prevents insects and decaying organisms from entering the tree. Our climber does not wear spikes when pruning your trees. This will ensure your trees are not damaged in the process of being pruned and maintain their health and longevity.
When to prune your trees?
Dead, damaged, and diseased branches should be removed as soon as possible. These dead, damaged, or diseased branches can fall at any time and are considered a hazard. Otherwise, the best time to prune is in late winter, or early spring, just before the tree begins to open its buds. While pruning can be done anytime, it is always good to avoid hot dry periods and extreme winter cold.

Sometimes when pruning trees, our qualified arborist when climbing sees what we don’t see from the ground and can recommend tree removal. This epicormic growth is not a natural growth, there needs to be regularly maintained causing you, the owner more expense.

Pruning with an EWP (Elevated Work Platform)
The team at Branch Management all have different qualifications that complement each other to allow us to perform all types of tree pruning in Newcastle.
Here our client wanted the dead fronds off this large phoenix palm without damaging the manicured hedge in the garden bed below and to retain the fern around the top of the trunk.
With the use of an EWP (Elevated Work Platform), our guys were able to achieve this project in a short period of time.
We have used EWP (Elevated Work Platform) for tree removal and large trees are the perimeter of shopping centres to shave back the sides for trucks to go past without damaging the trees and also the truck.
Reducing the heights of hedges and directional pruning shaping of trees can also require the use of an EWP.

Spikeless Tree Services
When pruning trees, our qualified arborist does not wear spikes, unless climbing and pruning palms. Spike poses a risk to trees and can damage and traumatize trees.
The Threats Climbing Spikes Pose
Climbing spikes are sharpened steel spikes attached to climbing arborist’s boots or their legs with straps. Luckily, trees have methods of healing themselves, and you can notice a tree’s response to the damage by watching for sap oozing from wounds. Though isolated wounds can seal, large groupings of spike holes can overwhelm the tree and cause irreparable tree tissue death.
When Are Climbing Spikes Appropriate?
Climbing spikes may be pulled but don’t panic as there are a few instances where climbing spikes are appropriate:
- When the tree is going to be removed.
- When there are no branches lower than 15 metres and there is no access to an aerial lift or crane. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
- In emergency situations, such as reaching an injured climber.
